Meeting with the Honourable Dr Kay Patterson, Age Discrimination Commissioner

On Tuesday 6 September in Brisbane, Andrea O’Halloran and I meet with the Honorable Dr Kay Patterson Age Discrimination Commissioner to discuss issues around older workers. Dr Patterson provided Andrea and I with a reality check on the strategies we are trying to achieve with the Re-think Reengage Australia (RRA). We shared with Kay a folder containing our current and future direction, comments from our petition, petition survey and Australian newspapers on older worker articles. Moreover, we shared our “RRA Capability Roadmap” to re-engage older workers back into the workforce. Kay shared with us, the meetings she had organised with professional associations like the Australian Human Resources Institute. Take-aways for us - • RRA needs to source funding; • Identify older worker champions; and • Showcase Queensland organisations (small, medium and large) doing innovate strategies to re-engage older workers. We are looking forward to our next meeting in February next year.
