We now have nearly 2000 followers on our combined Facebook sites and over 4000 signatures to our petition. Many of our supporters are recreational fishers are of an older demographic and don't have an online presence and many  have signed hard copy petitions. It all adds up!!

We have met with Ms Harriet Shing MP, Minister for Eastern Victoria, who has assisted us with setting up a meeting with Ms Jaala Pulford, Minister for Agriculture and Regional Development on the 24th August at Parliament House. The new ALP candidate for Gippsland East Cr.Mark Reeves has also been invited to attend.

We also have meeting on the same day with Mr Peter Walsh (Shadow Minister for Agriculture) and Mr Tim Bull local member for Gippsland East.

The aim of our meetings is to get commitment from both sides of Government, for cancellation of the10 remaining fin fish netting licences in the Gippsland Lakes, (with a fair and respectful compensation package), a review of recreational fishing bag and slot limits and a continued commitment to re-establish habitat as well as a restocking program for the Lakes iconic species; Black bream, Dusky flathead, Australian Bass and Estuary Perch. Restocking from recreational fishing licence funds cannot occur while the Gippsland Lakes continues to be netted with up to 2.2kms of gill nets allowable for each of the ten licences.

We want the Gippsland Lakes to return to abundance and the fishing  "mecca"  it once was, as is deserving of the largest estuary in Australia. Sadly it is now but a shadow of it's former self with a commercial catch of Black bream at it's lowest for 40 years or more.  The 17/18 commercial catch was a mere 12.9 tonne!!  It is no wonder the fish are scarce and that even "very experienced" anglers have difficulty finding them let alone the average fisher who brings their family to Gippsland for a holiday and to catch a fish.

If you can help us raise funds for our cause we are a not for profit incorporation. Any amount will help. Our Bank A/C details are CBA Lakes Entrance BSB 063-832  Acc. 10171597
