Let's keep Elizabeth Rabbitt Neighborhood Park on Del Mar Mesa

This petition made change with 785 supporters!

I want to continue to honor a pioneer in our community - Elizabeth Rabbitt.   Our little community park was named in her honor in the summer of 2017.    A handful of people are not in favor of this honor for Elizabeth.  They stated publicly that "others have done much more for the community...."

I am simply looking for a show of hands here.  Do you wish to honor Elizabeth with this park name?  If so, PLEASE sign this petition and leave a comment.  This will be shared with city officials at Park & Rec.

REQUIREMENTS:  1)  BE A RESIDENT IN THE DEL MAR MESA COMMUNITY.  2) BE 18 YEARS OR OLDER

WHO AND WHY?

Elizabeth Rabbitt is the retired, former CEO of Sharp Community Medical Group. Her husband is Dr. Mike Rabbitt a former US Navy and private practice dentist from La Jolla, CA.

Elizabeth moved to her Del Mar Mesa home – better known as “Hooterville Ranch” in 1995. At the time there were only a few houses on the mesa and accessible only by a winding dirt road. There was no running water or trash collection. She loved this peaceful spot. Perfect for raising her many animals and tending to her garden.

Then in 2001….the developers started to build. The roads were paved. Elizabeth did get her running water but the peace and quiet was gone. Elizabeth decided one day – “I can choose to hate it or love it. So, I decided to make this the best neighborhood possible.”  And that she did.

Hooterville and Elizabeth are the central point of Del Mar Mesa. Her home is a giant petting zoo for the kids. When she is not passing out vegetables from her garden, she is usually picking weeds on the street or helping someone with their ailing pet. Her friendship and generosity embodies the spirit of living on “the Mesa.” We all love her and there is nobody more deserving of this dedication than Elizabeth Rabbitt - our pioneer on Del Mar Mesa.

Subtext: Sometimes you just do things for people because they are special, they enrich our lives and ask for nothing in return. That is Elizabeth. She did not ask for this honor...we had to talk her into it and she humbly accepted. She has no kids of her own...the Del Mar Mesa community is her passion and this park name is a well deserved legacy.  OF COURSE THERE ARE OTHERS THAT DID MORE AND WERE MORE INFLUENTIAL IN DESIGNING THIS COMMUNITY - CONGRATULATIONS!  WE LOVE WHAT YOU DID AND VOTED WITH OUR MONEY TO BUY HOMES HERE.  We  paid the crazy taxes to build this park and we certainly get a say in who we wish to name it after.   We had sixteen + plus years in this community without a park and we all had the distinct honor to get to know Elizabeth and witness her generosity.
