Let's keep Doctor Who on ABC and IVIEW Australia

The issue

After a partnership spanning more than five decades, Doctor Who will no longer appear on the ABC beyond the current season.

The BBC on Wednesday announced a new deal with Disney+ to continue the series.

ABC audiences are currently able to watch past seasons of Doctor Who, including the recent centenary special, The Power Of The Doctor on ABC iView.

Whovians will need a subscription to Disney+ to watch future episodes.

The hard part about that is not everyone can afford Disney+ like with Netflix and other streaming platforms in Australia and while the series was airing on the ABC it was and easy way for Australian to watch there favourite Timelord and then catch up on IVIEW.

The ABC first bought the rights to bring Doctor Who to Australian screens in March 1964, going on to be one of its first and longest broadcasters outside the UK. It first went to air in January 1965.

At the time, the film reel of each episode had to be physically transported from city to city, airing on different dates in each area.

It would not be until February 1978 that all regions across Australia would broadcast the show at the same time.

When the series was renewed in 2005, it would be picked up for a prime-time slot on Saturday nights, with the gap between air times in Australia and the UK shortening from several months to just minutes over the following decade.

To coincide with Doctor Who's 50th anniversary celebrations, the ABC was among broadcasters in 94 countries to air episodes simultaneous to the BBC.

Sadly it all gone now sadly Australia has no way of watching it unless they get buy a VPN to watch the BBC1 or buy Disney+ and both of them are not cheap at all

his is not far at all we had so many Australia star in Doctor Who star like Katy Manning who team up with Jon Pertwee and Janet Fielding Who stared along side Tom Baker and Peter Davidson and we had Kylie Minogue who who starred along David Tennant and we had Ron Grainer who help made the the theme song to Doctor Who and Australia is no longer part of Doctor Who anymore...

You are taking away what Australia loves cause Doctor Who has been embraced by generations of Australian viewers, with the rebooted series regularly attracting more than 1 million viewers to the ABC
