Let's Honor Ellen Getten by Renaming Her Neighborhood Park

The Issue

Ellen Getten was a beloved daughter, friend and neighbor who radiated kindness and brought joy to those around her.  Tragically, Ellen, a 9-year-old resident of Reba Drive, was lost to the devastating July 4th Hill Country floods.  We, the residents of the 3100 and 3200 block of Reba Drive, have requested the City of Houston change the name of our street’s pocket park to Ellen Getten Park. Renaming the park in Ellen’s honor will provide a meaningful space for remembrance and reflection by her family, friends and neighbors.  It would be a lasting symbol of her impact and the fragile beauty of life. Her memory will inspire park visitors to cherish community, love and resilience.  With our friends and neighbors, we are underwriting the cost to rename the park and construct improvements that will not only honor Ellen’s all too brief life but also acknowledge the park’s history including it once being part of the Meyer family’s homestead.  By adding your name below, please join us in supporting this request to the City of Houston.
