Let’s get Water Birth at UCHealth Parkview Hospital in Pueblo, CO!

Let’s get Water Birth at UCHealth Parkview Hospital in Pueblo, CO!
The Issue
Let’s get water birth at our local hospital!
I am a Pueblo native, a doula, and a birth empowerment coach. I care deeply about helping women have positive and empowering birthing experiences.
✨ My own water births—both natural and hypnosis-assisted—were calm, low-pain, and truly life-changing. I had my son at a birth center and my daughter at home.
💖 I love supporting other women in trusting their bodies to birth naturally.
I am advocating for UCHealth Parkview Hospital in Pueblo to start offering water births as an option for Southern Colorado. UCHealth offers water birth in Northern Colorado—why not here?
💦 Water births are a natural and safe way to manage pain during labor, which means moms often need fewer medical interventions. When women are given choices like this, it helps them feel respected and supported during one of the most important moments of their lives.
📚 Studies also show that water births can:
• Reduce stress for both mom and baby
• Shorten labor
• Lower the risk of tearing during delivery (source: American Pregnancy Association).
By signing this petition, you’re helping bring more options to families here in Pueblo. With enough support, we can work with the hospital to make this a reality and help educate more women about these safe and holistic birthing practices.
🚨 UCHealth says there isn’t enough demand for water birth in Southern Colorado. Let’s change that! Sign this petition and ask for water birth when you talk to your health providers.
🤝 Let’s make sure every mom has the chance to choose the birth experience that’s right for her. Please sign and help make this change happen.
It may take months or likely years, but inevitably it will happen! If we keep educating ourselves and asking for it!
update 11/27/24
they have been very kind and responsive and even inquired about my being able to do water birth by May 2025, so this is just now a long term effort to keep the issue alive and growing! The more of us that ask for it, the more likely it can happen in the short or long term future. I have chosen to do a home birth personally so I can do water birth, since they will not have water birth by May 2025.
Email Response from UC health:
“After extensive discussion with our Northern region partners and what their journey to waterbirth has looked like I can honestly say it is something that we at Parkview do not have the capacity for at this time.
We do not have access to the resources or infrastructure to support water birth while also meeting hospital guidelines and regulations in the way the northern region has.
The provider support that they have seen in other regions is not reflected in our providers locally and without provider support, financial resources, and infrastructure I do not see this as a possibility at Parkview in the near future.
I respect and appreciate your petition and the interest that you are building in alternative birth modalities in Southern Colorado, I agree that our mothers and families need more options. However at this juncture it is not within Parkview's capacity to offer this service.
I know this is not the answer you are hoping for but I am hopeful that Parkview will be able to increase our offerings in the coming years possibly to include water birth but it is not something we can support at this time.
