The journey from point A to B is not always clear and easy, and sometimes fate throws us all a curve ball; but what we learn and take from it determines our destiny as individuals, and as a people.

So love him or not, Donald J. Trump is the President. Now politics aside, if that’s possible today, one thing that certainly brings all sides together is animal welfare. This topic knows no color or creed, age or sexual orientation, and is near and dear to many passionate and genuine people. Some are more active in their support for animal welfare, as are many organizations and causes, and all of our stories that brought this topic to the forefront are unique to our lives.

However with all the attention brought to this topic through the media and Internet, we still lack someone who could really focus the nation’s attention on this cause. This should be done at the federal level, within the new administration’s ranks of various ‘policy czars.’ So this petition is not only meant to persuade but push the new Trump administration to create an Animal Welfare Czar.

From wiki; “In the United States, the informal political term "czar" or "tsar" is employed in media and popular usage to refer to high-level officials who oversee a particular policy.” Couldn't have said it better myself. And that we have or have had a rubber czar and or a copyright czar should say it all. Not that those are bad examples; but if intellectual property and an elastic substance made from tropical plants overseas are important enough to have someone so high level within the US government, surely it’s overdue that we have someone in charge of animal welfare as well. Through this position policy and activism can go hand in glove in protecting those that need it the most.

Now this petition could be five pages if not ten with what an AWC would be able to do. Policies cracking down on puppy mills, companies that test chemicals on animals, industries that traffic in animal torture such as meat and poultry, are literally the easiest examples of what should be the focus. Not to mention increasing the penalties fines and jail time for those that abuse mistreat or harm animals.

However this position could be twofold as well, as someone at this level could also focus resources and bring attention to the positive aspect of animal rights. Raising awareness for the kids in our school system on how to care and protect animals, investing in more no kill shelters, helping low income families feed and care for their pets; again, these are the easiest ways an AWC would be able to affect a positive change at the federal level.

This isn’t rocket science, but something near and dear to the hearts of literally tens of millions, if not more. And to those that can’t relate, may they be lucky enough to have someone in their lives willing to help them see what’s happening, and the good that can come from an AWC.

Most things happen for a reason, so let’s get this done.
