There has been a significant increase in the number of families moving to Otford over the past 4 years and with that comes many more children. 

Currently, the many children of Otford have no playground and parents are required to drive to Stanwell Park or Helensburgh for their kids to play, engage with other children, etc. This is an issue because:

• Play areas act as more than just a space for kids to be kids, they can be a community hub with picnic tables and seating. 
• The lack of appropriate community space in Otford is hindering the social connection in the suburb and creating isolation as there are very limited opportunities to run into community members and have a chat.
• Some families may not have car access during the day. A local playground would especially benefit families with just one car or those who don’t drive. 
• The local families would love something they can walk to, to reduce the carbon footprint of driving and get our bodies (big and small) moving.

There are other suburbs of equal size in the northern Illawarra with playgrounds and community spaces. We have spoken with a local councillor and we are hopeful that the more attention this issue gets the more likely that we will get a playground and community space built.
