The Issue

Greenville, North Carolina, recognized as 'Pro Town USA' by Sports Illustrator, is a vibrant community with a strong affinity for action sports. With numerous enthusiasts and budding athletes in our region, it's time Eastern North Carolina reflects this dynamic culture by building a regional skatepark that serves everyone from beginners to seasoned skaters.

Skateboarding, along with BMX, have become integral recreational activities for many residents. These sports provide positive outlets for youth and adults alike, promoting physical fitness, creativity, and community engagement. Despite our rich sporting heritage, the lack of a centralized skatepark means skaters often face difficulties finding safe and legal spaces to pursue their passion.

Building a new regional skatepark in Greenville will not only support our local athletes but will also attract visitors, stimulate the local economy, and help solidify our community’s reputation on the national stage. Such facilities have proven their economic worth in other towns, generating tourism and opening up opportunities for local businesses. For instance, the skatepark in Raleigh, North Carolina, has led to a significant increase in visitors and local spending.

Moreover, skateparks are pivotal in fostering a sense of community and inclusivity, bringing together people from diverse backgrounds bonded by a shared interest. A centrally located skatepark in Greenville would be accessible to several surrounding areas, bringing together different communities and encouraging a healthy, active lifestyle.

We propose that city officials and community leaders prioritize the development of this vital project. Public-private partnerships can be explored, leveraging city funds, possible grants, and donations from community sponsors. By engaging local talent and enthusiasts in the design process, we can ensure the park meets the needs and expectations of its users, thus doubling its impact.

Join us in championing a regional skatepark that embodies the spirit of Pro Town USA. By signing this petition, you support a space that nurtures talent, promotes health and community, and celebrates the culture of Eastern North Carolina.
