We, the viewers of Countdown, call on Channel 4 to reconsider Rachel Riley's role as presenter on the show, due to her online activity that undermines the show's values of inclusivity and neutrality.

While we respect Ms. Riley's right to personal opinions, her recent social media activity has repeatedly caused distress and division. Her commentary on sensitive topics, including the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the Muslim faith, has been found by many to be deeply polarizing and insensitive. This creates a conflict between the values viewers expect from a family program and the presenter's online persona.

This disconnect has led many viewers, ourselves included, to sadly disengage from the show. We no longer find ourselves able to simply enjoy the program without feeling somewhat conflicted or upset by the presenter's outside activities.

Therefore, we urge Channel 4 to take the following actions:

Open a dialogue with Ms. Riley to address the concerns of viewers and assess whether her online activity aligns with the network's values and commitment to diverse programming.

If, after dialogue, Ms. Riley's online conduct continues to be incompatible with the values of Countdown and its audience, Channel 4 should consider seeking alternative presenters who represent the show's commitment to inclusivity and neutrality.

Countdown has provided decades of enjoyable entertainment for families across the UK. We believe it deserves a presenter who embodies the show's values and brings people together, not divides them.
