Europe's action to halve 88 million tonnes of food waste by 2030 is in real danger of being completely blocked! This is an emergency – please take our email action: http://ow.ly/SB3j30g17dL There are about 55 million people in food poverty in Europe - and the food wasted throughout the continent could feed them over 9 times over. Globally, if food waste was a country, it would be the third biggest carbon emitter after the US and China. In March, we had a huge victory – the European Parliament voted overwhelmingly in favour of farm to fork targets to halve EU food waste by 2030! A huge movement of over 100,000 people and 55 organisations from 18 European countries has so far joined our campaign, and the EU are feeling the pressure. But now we’ve received deeply concerning news that there’s a real chance the European Council could completely block any action to halve EU food waste at all. This would be disastrous. The clock is ticking as the negotiations are currently set to end in November. Although the UK has been among countries blocking the EU targets, we know that France and Italy are a lot more progressive on food waste, and could be invaluable allies within the European Council to help turn this situation around.
