It took us three years since we started this campaign, but we can gratefully announce that ACs (Friedrich window units) are now all installed in the classrooms at Koko Head Elementary since the start of 2022-23 school year.
At the time when we started this movement, I had my two older children at the school. They have since moved on to the middle and high schools, but my youngest child is happy to report she and her classmates are happy they sit in cooler classrooms every day.
Many of you who helped in the early stages of accompanying me to the capitol to testify, to lobby, to meet DOE officials no longer have students at the elementary school but know that your efforts have helped benefit our keiki and future students and we thank you for your enduring support.
The DOE was able to grant $ for our school through the health and safety fund because of our relentless persistence.
We thank Randall Tanaka, superintendent of DOE Facilities and Maintenance for taking us seriously and seeing our project through, and the contractors who kept things on track so we were able to have the units installed before school started.
