...the jury is still out even among three of our four area officials (Rep Ward has given us his full support to see this bill through)!
They should not have to be convinced that cooling our hot classrooms can only be a good thing for our keiki and teachers! But this is a long political process and persistence is key to getting this done.
We met with all our stakeholders at the capitol, including three DOE Facilities representatives on December 17th. Today, Cool Our Keiki Coalition sent a CIP bill template requesting $3.3 million to the 4 East Honolulu legislators to make it even easier to push this CIP along.
The final numbers: cool all 236 classrooms of all 6 Kaiser Complex area schools. $3.3 million averages out to be about $14,000/classroom, which includes all electrical work, upgrading of electrical panels, purchase and install of LG window AC units.
2020 state legislative session starts on Wed, January 15th!
They have until January 23rd to submit the CIP bill to the legislature. After that, they will need to convince and gain the votes of the rest of the legislators.
Cool Our Keiki Coalition will be lobbying in the next two weeks at the Capitol to ask they put their names behind the CIP bill.
