Why this petition matters

Started by Maggie Mori

The Problem:

Point Roberts’ property and business owners are unable to source necessary construction trades and services, repair services, concrete and other service providers resulting in deterioration of their assets and a complete standstill in new and existing construction.

Why is this happening?:

The isolated exclave of Point Roberts, WA, is geographically severed from Mainland USA, and shares its only land border with Canada.

Point Roberts, a small community of approximately 850 residents, is completely dependent on essential and other services provided by businesses located in Mainland Washington State and British Columbia, Canada.

Since Canada’s introduction of the ArriveCan app in late 2021, business owners in both Washington State and British Columbia have refused to travel to Point Roberts to perform critical services, citing onerous border requirements to enter Canada.

The Ask:

Petition the Cabinet of the Government of Canada to immediately draft an Order in Council providing an ArriveCan App exemption for U.S. and Canadian business representatives travelling to Point Roberts, WA, to perform construction and repair services.

*Petition created by Brian Calder, President of the Point Roberts Chamber of Commerce
