Dear supporters,
This week the Croatian media has boiling over with public outrage over the way mothers and children are treated in family law cases.
I wrote a summary in English of the case that has caused this uproar: that of Severina, a famous Croatian singer. Her case has been running in parallel with mine. We were using the same lawyers, and have been harmed by the same social services branch: Maksimir, in Zagreb, Croatia. Despite many investigations by the Ministry of Social Policy, nothing changes.
Like mine, Government foot-dragging over this issue has now caused further harm to her case and her child.
This is now clearly a situation involving criminal behaviour, which Severina has spoken out publicly against. She talks about a conflict of interest in her case involving Cherie Blair, wife of former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair - who is also heavily implicated in importing the US policies that are causing the horrific abuses of families in the courts and social services.
A famous Croatian journalist, Danka Derifaj, has said that 60% of reports by members of the public to Croatian media outlets relate to the "family courts". The situation is clearly desperate and families like mine are demanding political intervention.
Once again, you can read the Substack article here.
Please subscribe (for free!) to my Substack as I will be doing much more writing from now on.
Another piece of good news: last weekend I held a global community Unconference on the family courts. It was a success - we found solidarity with groups including campaigners for justice for the victims of the Irish Mother and Baby Homes scandal and disability rights campaigners. We have over 60 volunteers committed so far to a design justice approach to redress and reform, and we kick off our meetings tonight.
If you'd like to volunteer to campaign with us you can sign up here.
You can see recordings from the Unconference here.
Thank you for your support so far.
All families impacted by grievous human rights abuses and miscarriages of justice in the family courts are counting on one thing: 2024 must be the year that systematic abuse of power stops impacting citizens. We need a return to ethical standards in public life, and any Government we vote in in 2024 must commit to that. And we will find ways of holding them to it.
Best wishes,
Nataly
