To longtime caps fans, we all remember the call “ALEX OVECHKIN, WELCOME ON BOARD”. Joe Beninati has been calling Alex Ovechkin goals his entire career, and is the only person Washington Capitals fans want to hear call the record breaking goal. It is a great thing for the sport of hockey that we are going to witness Ovechkin break Gretzky’s goal record, and we are excited to share that moment with the world. It is completely understandable that the NHL wants to happen on a nationally televised broadcast, we are witnessing monumental history after all, but this goal should only be called by Joe Beninati.
