Over 32,000 gamers have signed a petition launched on Change.org, calling on Respawn Entertainment to find a way to enable Iranian gamers to play Apex Legends.
Over the past few weeks, Iranian gamers have been barred from playing Apex Legends, seemingly due to online restrictions imposed against Iranian users. For playing Apex Legends, gamers need to connect to cloud servers that are not accessible from Iran.
The petition was launched on Feb. 23 and in a few hours surpassed the initial target of 10,000 signatures. Since then, over 32,000 people have joined the campaign, asking Respawn Entertainment to devise a mechanism for enabling Iranian gamers to play Apex Legends.
More than 28 million gamers live in Iran and over 40% of them play games online. 31,000 people participating in the campaign shows that there is great demand for playing Apex Legends among Iranian gamers.
According to the petition which is titled “Let Iranian Gamers Play Apex Legends”, due to the above-mentioned issue, playing the game has become excessively hard in the country, if not impossible.
Only a few eager Iranian gamers have been able to play Apex Legends employing VPN or proxy services to get connected to the servers. VPN and proxy services are not reliable for playing games and increase ping significantly rendering the gaming experience arduous.
The petition concludes, “We only have one simple request: Let Iranian gamers play Apex Legends along their international peers and be part of the global experience of transcending national boundaries made possible by popular online video games.”
