Let Dutee Run! Don't Ban Women Athletes for High Natural Testosterone

The Issue

Dutee Chand’s dream of winning a medal for India were crushed when she was banned from competing because she was not “woman enough”.

Coming from modest means, she worked very hard to win two gold medals at the Junior Asian Games. Shockingly, she was banned from the Commonwealth Games 2014 because her body naturally produces too much testosterone to compete as a woman.

Her career is in jeopardy because of a discriminatory policy by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) that says that the testosterone her body naturally produces gives her an unfair advantage.

They say that she cannot compete unless she lowers her testosterone levels with surgery or drugs. This is discriminatory and unscientific. That’s why I’m asking the IAAF to change this policy and let Dutee run.

I started this petition because I believe Dutee should be allowed to run without having to prove that she is a woman enough to compete with other women. I strongly feel that IAAF should change this policy.

As she has said to me many times, "I'm a woman and I like to compete as a woman. I do not understand why I am asked to change my natural body simply to participate as a woman."

The IAAF policy discriminates against women from developing countries and women who earn low incomes. It targets athletes who are not ‘feminine’ enough.

Having played competitive badminton and having endured an abusive coach I vowed to help women being harmed and discriminated against in sport. I am determined to help Dutee and I need your support.

Sign my petition asking the IAAF to change this discriminatory & unscientific policy and ‘Let Dutee Run’. Forward this to your friends and family as well.
