The Issue
In recent months, we've witnessed a disconcerting trend in beloved platforms like ROBLOX and Discord. Specifically in ROBLOX, classic faces and 2D UGC static faces, and classic clothes and 2D items. once the hallmark of creativity and personal expression, are under threat. Users have expressed their displeasure with disruptive updates that seemingly compromise the platform's integrity and user enjoyment.
The age verification system, purportedly designed for user safety, has instead become a source of contention for many. Notably, a security breach involving over 70,000 government IDs and appeal tickets was reported when Discord faced an attack from Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters. This breach targeted the age-checking company 5CA, which Discord previously used for age verification purposes. This incident exposed the fragility of age verifications and raised enormous privacy concerns. Discord ceased its relationship with 5CA because of this breach.
Similarly, ROBLOX users are left frustrated as these stringent verifications stand as a potential threat to user privacy and autonomy. The system feels invasive and risks alienating a loyal user base principally composed of young gamers whom these platforms primarily serve. Moreover, creative UGC content, specifically classic and static faces, is at risk of being permanently modified or removed, potentially dampening the community's spirit.
What our community needs is a return to the open, creative environment that inspired countless interactions and collaborations without overbearing regulations that threaten privacy. We urge both ROBLOX and Discord to reassess their strategies: maintain the classic and static faces and @D clothes on ROBLOX, remove the invasive age verification processes, and ideally, bring back the essential chat features that facilitate community and collaboration.
Our call to action is simple yet profound: implement procedures that genuinely protect user safety without compromising creativity or privacy. Listen to the community and act in their best interest by keeping the platforms vibrant and secure.
