Let Chioma Go!

The Issue

I am deeply affeced by the actions of Erisco Foods LTD against Chioma Okoli who is facing upto 7 year Jail Term for a review of one of their products as reported by the DAILYMAIL and CNN

Women are this company's  main target market, to have one treated like this especially while they are pregnant for something as absurd as a review of their product is a show of  complete disregard for our voices and our rights as consumers and mothers that daily buy their products to prepare meals for our families.

Recently, Chioma was arrested and may face upto 7 years imprisonment for providing an honest review of Erisco Foods LTD tomato paste.  This is not just an abuse of power; it's an attack on the very hand that feeds them.  It is a spread of fear and intimidation to would be future negative reviewers. She's being used to send a chiling lesson down the spines to the consumers that this is what will happen to you if you dare to speak against Erisco  products.

Product Reviews are an integral part of Consumer Behaviour and Engagement with a Product or Brand. People should be left alone to give honest and unbiased opinions about the products they use without the fear or intimidation and no one should be dealt a 7 year Jail Term just because she found a certain product too sweet for her palette.

Erisco Foods LTD has crossed a line that should never be crossed in any business or society at large. Harassment and intimidation are not tools to silence criticism; they are violations of basic human rights (Amnesty International). The fact that this happened in Nigeria does not exempt them from international scrutiny or consequences.

We cannot allow such behavior to go unchecked. We must stand together against this blatant disregard for consumer rights and freedom of speech. Therefore, we call upon the relevant authorities in the EU, UK, and America to ban Erisco Foods LTD and their CEO Mr Eric  Umeofia from exporting their products until they demonstrate respect for consumers' rights.

By signing this petition you will be sending a clear message: harassment will not be tolerated; consumer voices matter; women matter! Chioma can be you, your mother, your wife, your daughter or sister. Do not allow her to lose her voice, Lend your voice to Chioma. If Erisco Foods LTD has all the money to buy the apparatus to gag Chioma, we can join hands together and overwhelming those apparatus and render them useless. This Petition needs to reach as many people as possible so they can join hands to speak on behalf of Chioma before her next court appearance in April.. Make sure you have shared with a friend or family member. Please sign now!
