Ok so my first post to this page is about the staying policy put in place in 2014! If a young person wants to stay in the home after turning 18, it is for a reason. They are making the choice to ask to stay; they know what is best for them at this stage in their lives. They will still have reviews, still talk to staff and social workers, still work on moving into their own place. But it will be when they, the staff and their social worker feel it is right thing to do, and in the right way for them. It is not right for a young person in care to suddenly have to move out when they reach the age of 18! In a normal home would you put your child out at 18? Did u move out at 18? ITS NOT RIGHT! The children may not be ready and your putting them on the spot and setting them up TOO FAIL! Either we give them financial support for housing or let them stay in the home until there a bit older and help them out!
