Let Billy & Tina Live In Peace: Send Them to Sanctuary, Not Another Zoo

The Issue

Billy and Tina, two aging Asian elephants, have spent decades confined at the Los Angeles Zoo. Now, instead of offering them the peace and space they deserve, plans are underway to transfer them to another zoo in Oklahoma. This decision ignores their complex needs and the trauma they've endured in captivity.

Both elephants suffer from serious health issues—Billy with chronic foot problems and Tina with joint disease and arthritis. They've been seen swaying and pacing for years, signs of deep stress and loneliness. These aren’t just animals—they’re intelligent, emotional beings who have spent most of their lives trapped behind bars.

But there’s still hope. Councilmember Bob Blumenfield has introduced a motion to stop the transfer and consider moving Billy and Tina to a sanctuary where they can finally roam, socialize, and heal in a natural space. Sanctuaries offer the kind of care and freedom these elephants have never known.

We’re asking the Los Angeles City Council to reject the zoo transfer and send Billy and Tina to a reputable sanctuary where their needs, not ticket sales, come first.

Please sign this petition to help give these elephants the peaceful retirement they deserve.
