Let 14–17-Year-Old Climbers Access the Training Gym Area at The Arch, Bermondsey

Let 14–17-Year-Old Climbers Access the Training Gym Area at The Arch, Bermondsey
The Issue
We are asking The Arch Climbing Gym in Bermondsey to please reconsider the new policy that bans climbers under 18 years old from using the training gym area — specifically the part with weights, pull-up bars, fingerboards, rings, and other strength equipment.
We understand that the MoonBoard and climbing walls are still available to us, but the ban on this training zone is a huge setback for dedicated youth climbers like us who use this space to train seriously. These tools are essential for building strength, finger power, injury prevention, and long-term progress.
Many of us are 14–17-year-old climbers who train regularly, follow structured routines, and are passionate about improving in the sport. For us, this area isn’t just for fitness — it’s part of a training system we rely on to reach our goals.
We understand that insurance costs may have gone up, but we believe there are fair ways to allow responsible access to this space, such as: waivers or parental consent forms; supervised hours or staff-approved access; an experience-based permission system; or a small annual youth surcharge to help cover insurance.
By restricting access to this part of the gym, you're removing something that helps us climb safer, stronger, and smarter. We're not asking for shortcuts — just the opportunity to train properly, like we did before.
We respectfully ask The Arch to reconsider this policy and work with youth members to create a safe, fair solution. Let young climbers train. Let us build strength. Let us continue to grow in the sport we love.
Please sign and share to support youth access to the full training gym area at The Arch, Bermondsey.
