Dear Amazing Race,

We absolutely love your show and consider it one of the better quality reality shows on TV. However we feel it is necessary that I address a glaring concern that your show and its creators seem to have overlooked.

Reveling in the races, bungee jumping, paragliding, free falling, target shooting, race car driving, ice swimming, and the other hectic, entertaining challenges you throw at your contestants, we have to wonder why you must continue to exploit animals for the sake of entertainment?

We cringe every time you feel the need to have your contestants ride donkeys, horses, take horse-drawn street carriages, ride abused and beaten elephants, fish, and yes eat LIVE animals or "delicacies" from other exotic countries. We found it ironically macabre that in one show you had your contestants feeding rescued orangutans at a wildlife sanctuary in Borneo, while other contestants had to help farmers with harvesting Palm Oil nuts. The reason the orangutans require rescuing is BECAUSE of the destructive farming of palm nuts! That was truly a face-palm moment.

For those who are vegetarian, vegan or simply care about the suffering of others, you offer no options to participate. As vegans  we could never sign up for the show as half the challenges would be disgusting, cruel and ethically abhorrent.

What next Amazing Race; boiling dogs alive and then eating their meat? Hunting bears, lions and big game? Since your show enjoys the exploitation of the most innocent and voiceless, why not challenge your contestants to participate in the local child prostitution market and slavery? If its only about participating in "local culture" these challenges should not be off limits, right? Hyperbole aside, our point is, where do you draw the line?

We ask that you please drop the use of all animals in your show. No more donkey and horse rides, no more exploitation of elephants and no more eating of beings, live or dead. Is this something you would consider as progressive and compassionate people? Also dropping the use of animals as part of the race will allow a fair open playing field for all people to participate. It's the compassionate and right choice to make.
