Hi all, 672 people (mostly local residents) have now signed this petition to keep 57th St. one-way. That’s a HUGE show of support!

The Hyde Park Herald recently covered the proposal and this petition, and you can read the article here:

https://www.hpherald.com/news/neighbors-petition-u-of-c-proposal-to-convert-57th-street-and-stony-island-avenue-into/article_db1d7850-1521-11ed-a724-6fde92833229.html

The Office of Civic Engagement has begun scheduling small group sessions to gather community input on the possibility of reopening 57th St. as a two-way street between Lake Park and Stony Island. The initial sessions only include neighbors who live and operate businesses close to this area. However, this change would negatively impact many more Hyde Park residents on a daily basis, as indicated by the volume of signatures on this petition.

Action item: Please take a few minutes to voice your concerns about this proposal by emailing Alderman Leslie Hairston and the Office of Civic Engagement. I have included the relevant contact information below:

Thanks again for supporting this cause!
