Today, a SA Jockey at a race meet in SA dismounted from his horse, as it was entering the barrier, and proceeded to punch the horse.

After reviewing the footage and investiging, the TRSA (Throughbred Racing South Australia) gave the offending Jockey a 2 week suspension.

This needs to be reviewed, as this punishment is far from the punishment that is warranted. In our opinion this Jockey should be banned from ever riding again.

At a time when we are getting serious about violence, I think it is time the line was drawn, and we start trying to lead by example, and this punishment doesn't fit the crime.

This is downright cruelty to an animal and should be treated as such. Not only should a lifetime ban be imposed, but a fine for the cruelty to an animal should also be considered.
