Lenape Regional High School District has used Native American symbolism and mascots since the schools were built. The schools have large paintings depicting racist caricatures on their walls. At football games, students wear headdresses and paint their faces, appropriating Native American culture and history. LRHSD schools pride themselves on being “No Place For Hate.” How can they make this claim when their very mascots and symbolism are so blatantly racist? Racism runs rampant in a district with so little diversity. Changing our mascots is a step in the right direction. In an era of racial justice, this cannot be tolerated. 

I personally will not share my name, however I attend Shawnee High School and I have seen firsthand the racism and ignorance of the students and staff. I cannot imagine how a person of color may feel isolated or targeted at our school. Change is necessary. Please sign this petition and share!
