Problem
As a result of human activities, climate change is worsening and threatening the way we live and the future of our planet. As stated in the IPCC report an increase in 2°C above pre-industrial temperatures are projected to increase climate-related risks to health, food security, water supply, human security, and economic growth, with impacts getting progressively worse beyond the 2°C limit. It is important to take urgent action to tackle climate change and its impacts. In order to do this, we need to dedicate ourselves to a low-carbon future. It has become apparent that both current and future investments in fossil fuels are irresponsible and ill-advised.




Solution
Through Leiden University College (LUC)  use of Eneco as their energy supplier, they indirectly contribute to the investments of fossil fuels. Eneco continues to make use of gas power plants. In order to embody and bring into practice our underlying values for sustainable development, we need everyone’s support. As members of the LUC community, our small actions can have big impacts. We ask that by switching from Eneco to Qurrent; a truly sustainable and clean energy supplier. We are committing to bringing this university one step closer to being a fossil free university. Qurrent gets all their electricity from sun and wind, providing only 100% Dutch, green energy. They also meet all sustainability criteria of the Consumers’ Association. We demand a change from gas-centered Eneco to a green energy supplier. Please sign this petition to support our initiative.
