It has been almost 12years that we have been lobbying for an anti-discrimination bill for people living with viral hepatitis but up to now we still do not have a law that will protect us. Applicants continued to get screened for Hepatitis B and when found positive, their application will be denied. We continuously educate and raise awareness and instead of getting employers to understand the situation of people living with viral hepatitis, more screening takes place. This law does not need a special budget unlike other laws. In fact this will give chance to people living with viral hepatitis to work and earn and not rely on government support. We call on law makers to support our cause. We are not asking for anything special but only be on a level playing field. We don't want to be a burden to the society and we want to be contributors and not be freeloaders. It is not our fault that we have hepatitis b. We are just unlucky because we were not vaccinated with hepatitis b vaccine when we were born. Do we have to suffer in our lifetime because we were not vaccinated and were infected with hepatitis b? Every time we get rejected, our self esteem gets lower and lower. We feel of no use. Please understand.
