Provide Loan Forgiveness to Recent Everest College Graduates

The Issue

We are a group of Everest College Graduates seeking Forgiveness for our OSAP Student Loans for attending Everest College during the past several months before the Official closing of the colleges.

We entered into contracts with Everest College in Ontario in an effort to improve our education, employability and income. We incurred tuition debt with the understanding that Everest Colleges were reputable and were held to high standards by the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, Private Career Colleges Branch.

As a result of the difficulties in the United States with respect to Corinthian Colleges (Everest’s Parent Company), we were informed of the problems in 2014 by News Media, Everest College itself, and through statements released by acting government bodies. At that time, as students, we had absolutely no option to withdraw from Everest and avoid the stigma created by the bad publicity and subsequent closure of the Colleges in Ontario. We were forced to continue attending the Colleges or withdraw voluntarily while incurring full tuition loan indebtedness.

While the Ontario government has reached out to the existing students by transferring students and their debt to alternate reputable colleges or providing tuition refunds, recent graduates are left stranded with questionable or worthless credentials, non-existent graduate services, and no access to personal education records or placement evaluations.

For many students who graduated or were still seeking post-grad employment after the beginning of the 2014 collapse of Everest Colleges in the United States and Canada, employment opportunities have dwindled or disappeared due to the ‘Sour’ stigma of the Corinthian Colleges questionable practices and resulting corporate ‘implosion’.

So, without paid experience in their specific fields, into which they enrolled and graduated in the past year or so, quality employment has become unavailable. Everest Grads are unable to secure interviews for Entry Level positions in their fields. Without entry level positions, experience is IMPOSSIBLE to obtain.

Everest Colleges were given the opportunity by the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities to ‘get their act together’, to ‘sell the campuses and separate from their parent company’, to ‘achieve a new level or at least maintain a level of legitimacy in Ontario’.

THEY FAILED!

Recent Grads were NEVER given any opportunity to legitimize their education!  They were never given the opportunity to jump ship and transfer or withdraw from Everest Colleges in Ontario without incurring debt.

The Corporation running Everest Colleges was permitted to continue to receive funding from students and tuition loan providers. The operations of the College were never stopped.  Everest Colleges continued to PROFIT. All employees and companies receiving income and profit from Everest Colleges also benefited during the time the company was permitted to continue taking money on behalf of its students.

Students continued to incur debt.

Students have tuition debt for bad diplomas!

We want your help to bring about forgiveness of our tuition loans.
