Legalize the Use of High Vis Pink Class 3 Clothing for Utility Workers on Highways

The Issue

Throughout my 20 years of line clearance career, I've observed all the colors of nature and have traveled throughout the United States. One thing I've discovered is the striking visibility of high vis pink. This unconventional color has proven to be the most effective hue in spotting co-workers, which could potentially save lives when working on highways or any high-class road.

Every day, utility workers risk their lives working in hazardous environments. In the US alone, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported 3,945 work-related fatalities in the construction and utility industry in 2019 (BLS, 2019). Many of these accidents could have been prevented by increasing worker visibility, particularly for those working near fast-moving vehicular traffic.

High visibility clothing for utility workers is currently limited to colors like fluorescent orange and yellow-green.

Our proposal is to allow the use of high vis pink as an additional safety color for Class 3 clothing, worn by workers exposed to high levels of risks, such as highway workers.

This request can potentially enhance worker safety and visibility on the job site. It's not a fashion statement, but a firm step towards ensuring the safety of our hardworking utility workers on the roads every day.

Please support our cause by signing this petition and make high vis pink Class 3 clothing a legal safety color for utility workers in contact with high-speed traffic. By signing this petition, you advocate for the safety of workers who risk their lives to ensure our comfort. Help us bring change to their occupational safety standards.
