I was riding my 49cc gas-powered Go Ped respectfully on the side of the road, not impeding traffic, and adhering to all traffic laws when I was abruptly stopped by a police officer. Despite my compliance, I was unlawfully arrested and issued a $100 fine for violating a city ordinance. Being on a fixed income, this fine was a significant burden on my finances. My GoPed is my sole means of transportation for essential tasks like grocery shopping and running errands.

It's unfair and unnecessary for individuals who use Go Peds responsibly and legally to face legal repercussions. The current laws around the usage of gas-powered and electric Go Peds for individuals aged 16 and over need to be reconsidered and changed.

The law should allow people aged 16 and over to operate their Go Peds on public roadways, provided they respect the rules of the road and ride responsibly. Many rely on these vehicles for their everyday transportation needs. Changing this ordinance will not only help individuals like me avoid unjust penalties but also promote a more inclusive transportation policy.

Electric and gas-powered Go Peds are environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional vehicles. Encouraging their use can reduce traffic congestion and decrease our city's carbon footprint.
