Legalize the Sale of Home-Baked Goods from my Residence in Canton, OH

The Issue

My name is Christopher Kaylor and I am a proud resident of Canton, OH. Baking has always been more than just a hobby for me - it's my profession, my passion, and my source of livelihood. However, recently my home-based bakery was shut down by the city zoning department, threatening not just my income, but a dream that I nurtured and grew from scratch.

Currently, the zoning restrictions prohibit home bakers like me from selling homemade baked goods out of my home, thus limiting our potentials and invading our choices of occupation. Unfortunately, Canton, OH is not alone in this, according to the Institute for Justice, 32 states across the U.S restrict the sale of home-baked goods.

Allowing home-based bakeries to operate not only enables talented bakers to contribute to the local economy but also exhibits the true spirit of entrepreneurship that this great nation prides itself on. Allowing this change would be in align with the 2018 Home Baked Goods Act of Ohio, which grants home bakers the right to earn an income from their craft.

Therefore, we are urging the city officials of Canton, OH, to review and amend these restrictive zoning regulations while implementing effective health and safety measures to allow home-based baking businesses to thrive.
