Legalize Sports Gambling for Ages 21+ to Fund Disaster Relief in California

The Issue

I have been a witness to the havoc that natural disasters bring to communities in California, affecting friends, family, and entire neighborhoods. Our state has struggled with effective responses to such disasters; a situation that urgently needs a solution. One innovative approach is to legalize sports gambling for ages 21 and up. This proposal aims to include platforms such as FanDuel, DraftKings online betting, along with casino table games like Craps and Baccarat. The legalization will be subject to a tax of 10%, costing each casino $100 million for table games and sportsbooks each year. Also $200 million for online platforms respectively, paid to the state upfront each year as well. These funds can be directed towards California's natural disaster funds, aiding communities when they face calamities such as fires, floods, and earthquakes. The American Gaming Association reports that legal sports betting could contribute $26.6 billion annually to the U.S. economy, and create 152,000 new jobs. These funds in California could significantly bolster our ability to respond quickly and effectively to disastrous events. Legalized sports gambling could, therefore, be more than a source of entertainment; it could be a lifeline for our communities in times of need. Let us invest in our state today to safeguard our tomorrow. Please sign this petition, and help us make sports gambling a legal, regulated, and beneficial facet of our economy.
