Around 4.7 million women have been sexually assaulted outside of a relationship age 15 or older in Canada which is one out of  seventeen people(statistics Canada, 2019). This is not a high number but it can be lowered. I am from a small town and I now have to work in a large city in a very sketchy area. I believe that we should be able to have some sort of protection against any sort of attackers. I am aware that bear spray is legal, but in a lot of cases this is being used on humans as protection, which I believe is a bit much, and bears are only in specific areas that many can avoid. I believe that we should have access to tools that can prevent sexual assault and theft so not only women can have some sort of protection from these horrific tragedies. Going to the police is an option but unfortunately that means they have to go through the experience before they have any sort of case against their attacker. I have many friends and loved ones who unfortunately had to go through this pain and watching them deal with this on a day to day life is so heartbreaking. We should have some means of protection without being prosecuted or scared.
