As someone who is currently in a polyamorous relationship, it's unacceptable that the law denies me the right to marry both of my partners. This issue isn't just about me, but about thousands of people across the country who are in polyamorous relationships and are denied the legal rights and protections that come with marriage.

Polygamy is often stigmatized and misunderstood, but at its core, it's about love and commitment between consenting adults. According to a Relationships Australia article (2023), more than 1.5 million Australians have stated that they are in or have been in an open relationship of some kind. It's time for the law to recognize that all forms of consensual adult love should be protected and celebrated.

We're not asking for special treatment. We're asking for equal treatment under the law. And we believe that it's time for our laws to reflect the diversity of modern relationships. We need to recognize polygamy as a valid form of marriage alongside monogamy.
