The Issue

I am a resident of New York and 11 years old, with a deep-seated desire to own a pet monkey, specifically, a Capuchin monkey. However, the current laws in our state prohibit this. This is not just about fulfilling personal desires but also about understanding the nature of these animals and their compatibility with humans.

Capuchin monkeys are intelligent creatures known for their sociability and adaptability (source: National Geographic). They have been used as service animals for people with mobility impairments for years due to their dexterity and trainability (source: Helping Hands Monkey Helpers). These facts clearly demonstrate that they can coexist harmoniously with humans when given proper care.

However, it's important to note that owning any pet requires responsibility. For monkeys like Capuchins, potential owners should be educated on their needs and behaviors to ensure they can provide an appropriate home environment.

I am not advocating for unrestricted ownership but rather regulated ownership where potential owners must meet certain requirements before being allowed to own these beautiful creatures. This would protect both the animals from neglect or abuse and the public from potential risks associated with improper care.

Let's work together to change this law so that responsible individuals like myself can enjoy companionship from these amazing creatures while ensuring their welfare is prioritized. Please sign this petition if you believe in our cause!
