I wish to have a monkey. A yearning shared by many Pennsylvanians, yet one unable to be satisfied by current regulations that require pricy and hard-to-secure permits for exotic pet ownership. The scenario at present is such that only a select few are allowed to experience the joy of having a monkey – a companion that is smart, loving, and complex. 

This petition aims to modify the state's legislation pertaining to owning monkeys, specifically to make it legal without a permit. These permit requirements are largely bureaucratic and fail to consider the genuine concern and love that potential owners, like myself, have for these creatures.

Monkeys can, indeed, make excellent pets. Reports confirm that with proper care and nurturing, they can adapt to human habitats and live healthy, happy lives. Around 15,000 exotic pets, including monkeys, reside in the UK as per the RSPCA.

Also, there is no concrete evidence establishing monkeys as a public threat or health concern if cared for properly, thereby nullifying a significant rationale for the stringent permit requirements.

Hence, it is urged to rethink and modify the existing laws to allow monkey ownership without a permit in Pennsylvania. An opportunity to coexist with these wonderful animals should not be restricted to just a few. Help bring this change. Sign the petition and spread the word among your peers.
