In many states across the United States, medical and recreational marijuana has been legalized, benefiting both the health and economy of those states. Yet in Indiana, marijuana remains illegal for both medical and recreational use; effectively denying Hoosiers the opportunity to experience the relief it can provide to multiple health conditions such as chronic pain, epilepsy, and PTSD, as supported by the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Furthermore, according to a report by the Marijuana Policy Project, states with legalized marijuana have seen an increase in tax revenue, with states like Colorado collecting over $247 million in 2017 alone. Legalization in Indiana could potentially, consequently, revitalize our economy too. We urge our representatives to reconsider the policies surrounding marijuana and move towards legalizing its medical and recreational use.
