As a resident of Columbia, IL, I have seen firsthand how the escalating gas prices are affecting our community. I propose that our city government pass an ordinance allowing low-speed vehicles (LSVs) on city streets that comply with Illinois state law (625 ILCS 5/Illinois Vehicle Code).

These LSVs will not be allowed to cross or travel on major highways such as Illinois Route 3 or Route 158. This restriction ensures safety while promoting local travel and commerce. By keeping our travels within the city limits, we can support local businesses and generate tax revenue for both the city and county.

Additionally, this proposal includes a cap on city registration and ordinance fees at $100 per year per vehicle - making this an affordable solution for many residents struggling with high fuel costs.
