As a resident living in Illinois, I've come to realize how disadvantaged our region is when it comes to access to standard fireworks. The only form of fireworks available in local stores here are smoke bombs. This restriction levies an unnecessary hardship on my family. I live with my grandma, who has a disability, making mobility a challenge. Thus, every time we want to enjoy some flicker of festivity that comes with fireworks, we are left with simply smoke bombs, or the trouble of having to move her in and out of the house because the wind was going our way. 

To access more exciting varieties like fountain fireworks or aerial fireworks, I and many like me are forced to travel to different states, a situation that is clearly unfair. as of other states you could get fountain fireworks at a local store. Fireworks are an integral part of our celebrations, and everyone should enjoy the right to safely and responsibly use them, regardless of where they live.

It should be noted that when used responsibly, fireworks can be enjoyed safely. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, injuries related to fireworks have steadily decreased over the last three decades due to improved safety regulations and awareness in most states (CPSC report, 2019).

Therefore, this petition calls for the legalization of the sale and use of all kinds of fireworks in all states of the U.S, so that every citizen has equal opportunity to access and enjoy the laughter and joy they bring to events and celebrations. It is about time that the state law of Illinois and similar states evolved to match the freedom that citizens in other states enjoy.
