Legalise Home Cultivation for Medical Cannabis Patients

The Issue

In 2018, medical cannabis was legalised in the UK — but for most patients, this change exists only on paper.

NHS prescriptions remain nearly impossible to obtain. Private access is expensive and out of reach for many. Desperate for relief, thousands of patients are forced to grow their own medicine — risking arrest, prosecution, and trauma.

People living with conditions like:

 • Epilepsy

 • Chronic pain

• Fibromyalgia

 • Multiple sclerosis

 • PTSD and anxiety

 • Cancer-related symptoms

…are being criminalised for cultivating a plant that helps them function, survive, and live with dignity.

This is not just a health issue — this is a human rights crisis.

💬 What We Are Demanding:

The United Patients Alliance (UPA) calls on the UK Government to:

 1. Legalise home cultivation for registered medical cannabis patients, with sensible plant limits.

 2. Create a simple registration system for patients with documented medical needs.

 3. Immediately stop prosecuting patients who grow cannabis for legitimate personal medical use.

 4. Guarantee affordable, consistent access to cannabis-based medicines through the NHS and regulated home grows.

🔥 Why It Matters:

 • Dignity & Autonomy: No one should face prison for managing their health.

 • Compassionate Policy: Growing medicine isn’t a crime — it’s survival.

 • Equity in Access: Home growing is the only option for many who can’t afford private clinics.

 • Public Safety: Safe, legal home cultivation reduces reliance on the illegal market.

We Demand:

An end to the criminalisation of patients.

The right to grow our medicine.

Compassionate reform — now.
