Don't Play Games with People's Lives

Hi, Firstly, a big "G'day Maaate!" to everyone of the 2000 folks who have signed my petition since my last update. Thank you so much! No money, no advertising and no free media and yet the idea grows stronger everyday...tis very cool. Now...time for the update...I came down to Wellington last week to watch the vote on The Greens Medicinal Weed Bill and to push the idea of getting this Referendum done before the next election. Well we lost that vote and then the Pollies all bailed to Waitangi for a pretty cool looking barbecue and a bit of a natter...and fair enough too I reckon...well about Waitangi anyway... But for those opposed to making weed legal knocking back the Green's Bill was just plain silly in fact even stupid. After all, by refusing to compromise on homegrown weed they strengthened the resolve of all users (medicinal or otherwise) to back this Referendum and end this senseless, wasteful and hurtful prohibition once and for all... Yes, the current bill before select committee will be improved but by knocking back the Green Bill both National, NZ First and those few Labour Party recalcitrant's who voted no have made sure there will be many people waiting for them at the polling booth next election ready to wield their pens like a baseball bat! I pity the fools... But this week has not been entirely wasted as I have had time to catch up with a few folks from behind the scenes and have learnt much of interest. You see it's not just the usual conservative suspects who are playing games with the lives of their fellow Kiwi's for their own political gain. It's some of the political hard heads in the Labour Party and The Greens too. It seems these clowns really do think it is OK to use this Referendum as a means of getting you to the polls next election because they think you will vote to return them to Government as you vote for a humane drug management policy. Now as someone with a hell of a track record when it comes to political strategy I will say that's not a silly calculation to make...but as bloke who believes such stratagems should only be used for the public good I will say that BY GOD it's just plain wrong to hold people hostage to criminals for personal political gain and it MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO STAND. Now, more than ever, I am resolved that this petition must succeed in getting this issue sorted before the next election. These stupid laws have hurt too many and continue to do so and that madness must end as soon as possible. So I'm still here in Wellington and am seeking a sit down with all of the relevant "players" this week to make this case and will keep you posted as to my progress. In the meantime if you would sign, share, tag etc this petition again and again I would be grateful. If you would like to write or call your MP's and any others with influence on this matter then please do... Tell them to JUST GET THIS DONE. Cheers David
