Killing Polar Bears is Legal?

The Issue

The WFF recognizes the polar bear as a threatened species, but the Canadian Government is still allowing everyday people to kill polar bears. The only restriction is that they must have an Inuit guide and pay a small fee of $750.00. This is utterly ridiculous.

Thousands of Canadian dollars is spent on the conservation of endangered animals, and we are still allowing people to kill them. With two out of the 14 sub-populations of polar bears decreasing and estimation that by 2050 one third of the polar bear population will be gone. We, as a community, need to do something to help the polar bear in their fight to stay alive.

Churchill Manitoba is one of the many tourist destinations that people can go on vacation and see the polar bear in their natural habitat. This is an amazing way for the Inuit to get people to understand their culture a little more and for them to earn an income. I believe hosting tours and such is the best way to handle the polar bear situation. None of them will get killed and it could inspire some people to become activists for climate change and helping endangered animals.
