WERE YOU CONSULTED?
The scrapping of free parking after 15:30 and a significant increase in Leek’s car-parking fees has now been approved and will commence imminently.
Background: 23/12/21 “The council is considering a range of options as part of the emerging car parking strategy for the Moorlands following the public consultation that was carried out at the start of the year.
“Nothing has yet been agreed but 30-minutes free parking on car parks in Biddulph, Cheadle and Leek is one of the measures for discussion at the Service Delivery Overview and Scrutiny Panel in January.
“We’ll be sharing the full details of what’s agreed in the New Year.”
The other towns affected, Cheadle and Biddulph, have alternatives. Sainsbury's in Biddulph has 2 hours free parking with short walking distance to all shops and it's a large carpark. Morrison's in Cheadle, large for the town, allows 2 hours free parking with an easy walk to the shops. Leek has no attractive comparison for the size of its retail area.
Cheadle has been granted what its Town asked for, as agreed at Cabinet 8/2/22, we ask that the same leniency be applied to Leek!
CONSULTATION

Town, Parish and County Councils, including Peak Park
 Customers
 Local business and business groups
 Residents
As this work was undertaken during the Covid pandemic and therefore much of the consultation work was undertaken remotely, although the car parks were physically inspected by the Consultants
