"Lee Bradbury, Embrace the Gunge for Charity!"
The Issue
Dear the local Football Clubs,
I am writing to ask if it would be possible to do something for a charity close to my heart.
This involves Lee Bradbury who is my favourite ex footballer. The first time I saw him, I was so speechless. I could not believe how handsome and down-to-earth he is.
My biggest ambition is to get gunged in a gunge tank for charity, but I would love to do it with him.
I would like it to be for a mental health charity as I have Autism. I suggest MIND because they have already been a benefit to many people, including me.
During the pandemic I got very upset and my mental health was quite bad as a result and ended up on anti depressant to help me through.
I am a football coach like Lee, and I approached a local football youth group (in October 2022) for disadvantaged kids if I could boost my confidence in coaching, try some of my football sessions out but have a great time and get some sort of pride in myself - to which I was granted. We had a break at the end of 2022 for bad weather. After Christmas I broke down after being lied to via Facebook Messenger and told my services were no longer required - I had done really well when training was on and looked quite professional. Subsequently my football coaching involvement diminished and I was no longer fit to coach at my other youth groups because of the way I was treated.
I love my football as much as Mr Bradbury does and he is my inspiration to study the game and get my coach badges. I am trying to complete my UEFA C but my bad mental state stopped me from doing so. Lee really makes me feel welcome when I meet him and we chat about football and my playing.
The benefits regarding my wish to get a gunge event to happen are that more people would know about the work the charity does and how it helps people, raise awareness of mental health in general, and hopefully bring more fans to appreciate and support Lee too.
If you feel that this is worthwhile and you're able to facilitate a messy day, please let me know how you can help. I have already got £200 for charity and I'm sure if local football teams were involved then we could get that amount quadrupled!
Below is a letter to Lee:
Dear Lee Bradbury,
As fans and supporters of yourself, we kindly request your participation in a fun and exciting event that will not only bring joy to individuals attending but also make a significant impact on the charity MIND. We believe that you would look absolutely fantastic in the gunge tank, wearing a Pompey shirt, all in the name of charity! By participating in this event, you would be joining forces with like-minded individuals who share the same goal of making a difference through fun-filled activities.
As avid fans of you and your football career we have always admired your dedication to making a positive difference in sport.
However, it is our belief that there is one unique opportunity for you to raise even more funds, while simultaneously bringing immense joy to your fans. Picture this: You, Lee Bradbury, sitting proudly inside a gunge tank filled with vibrant colours while sporting an iconic Portsmouth Football Club shirt. The crowd cheering as they witness their beloved football legend embracing this messy experience.
MIND charity has gained tremendous support from individuals and groups all over the country, and helping people to get mentally better if they have a crisis.
Lee Bradbury, we sincerely hope that you will consider embracing the gunge for charity. Your participation in this event would not only bring immense joy to your fans but also provide much-needed support to those in need. Together, let's make a lasting impact on our community by combining philanthropy with fun!
Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
Sincerely,
Sarah Galley and the rest of the Pompey fans
