The historic buildings in downtown Leavenworth, Kansas are being damaged by the volume of traffic along with the speed and weight of the vehicles.  The truck route needs to be reinstated outside the historic downtown district or at least reduce the traffic on narrow section of 4th Street between Osage and Walnut to one lane each direction with a turn lane in the center, while reducing the speed limit for larger vehicles.

The historic buildings are just eight feet from the street and some buildings have  been standing since the 1860's but with the volume, speed and weight of these vehicles they may not last another decade.  The asphalt streets are hiding a layer of brick below and with the hollow voids of the collapsing underground tunnels, almost ancient sewers and brick lined storm drains that transfers the vibrations from those who pass by to most of the buildings downtown.  While 4th Street remains the busiest road the vibrations can be felt over 100 feet away.  We are in desperate need of your support.
