Firstly, we would like to thank you all for your massive support. Please keep sharing the petition, we need as many signatures as possible! 

Some clarifications concerning some rumors going around various social media platforms about this petition and the reading lists:

1. There are false statements swirling around about the content of the book lists in question, especially pertaining to classics. LISD book lists have not phased out or gotten rid of classics. To Kill a Mockingbird, Slaughterhouse-Five, and Their Eyes Were Watching God, to name a few, are some of the works on lists that are currently being challenged. Secondly, teachers have explicitly told parents and students alike that if a family is unhappy with the content of certain options on the list, they are allowed to discuss alternatives with the teacher.
2. This is an initiative started by LISD students and parents.
