Every year numerous dogs lose their lives in the mountains around the UK due to human error and ignorance. Sadly these incidents seem to be on the increase, with several fatalities and rescues taking place this week alone. 

I personally have been involved in a number of search and rescues that have been a result of dogs being off lead in dangerous environments, many of which have not had a happy ending. 

The National Parks are here for everyone to enjoy safely. However I, along with many others want to see stricter laws and prosecutions resulting from negligence when dog owners are not providing a basic duty of care by keeping dogs on leads and under control at all times, when in mountainous areas. 

This simple, yet effective measure is not only to stop dogs from going missing or worse becoming another fatality but also to protect the livestock and wildlife that reside there.
