Bring Back Blyth Beach Huts Daily Rental

Bring Back Blyth Beach Huts Daily Rental
The Issue
Just last week I discovered at the same time as many other Blyth residents, that our beloved beach huts were no longer available for daily rental. The impact of this decision is devastating for our community. What was once available to all residents and Blyth visitors for a reasonable fee is now restricted to a tiny group of people for a much larger price tag. In fact they do not seem to be available at all as many enquiring have been told they are already booked up. This was not advertised anywhere and yet a small group of people who were in the know have booked them.
The beach huts have been used in recent years for children’s birthday parties, community groups and all sorts of celebrations and days out. I understand they have been specifically used by day centres for those with learning disabilities who were also not informed of the changes. They encourage visitors from outside of the area and are now a proud emblem of Blyth featuring on welcome signs as you drive in and on every advert for the town. I believe they were built for the community and to be accessed by the whole community - not just those who can afford longer term rental. As Active Northumberland is supported by the council - please give us our beach huts back. They may be a hindrance to run daily and they may be costly to clean but surely there is a better solution? Please listen to the people of Blyth and find a way to make them accessible to all members of the public again.
